Tomorrow is Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year - the darkest day of the year. A day where we have an opportunity to choose what we want to leave behind in the darkness, then begin to make the slow journey back to the light. It's a magic time when people all over the world join intentions in releasing what doesn't work and choosing something new for themselves, for their loved ones, and for beautiful Mother Earth. The resonance of choice is humming all around us and all we need to do is step in to it! There are so many ways to choose, by that I mean physical rituals that hone our intention to make this more meaningful.
This solstice is especially powerful, as it's also the new cold moon and a total lunar eclipse. The last time there was such a propitious lineup was 1554!
SO, if you've never taken the time to set an intention on the winter solstice - here's your chance! Here are a few ideas that you can use - or not - the point is to make this time meaningful and delicious to you. For those of you who haven't noticed, we are firmly in "woo woo" territory :) Buckle up - here we go!
This ceremony can be done alone or with others. Make sure everyone has some paper and pencils. Music helps set the mood to write down what you want to release. Write as many as you like.
Your source of fire can be a candle, fireplace, or bonfire, as long as it's safe (duh). Burn the paper as you feel the release of the old into the flame. After everything has burned, seal the ritual by pausing in quiet reflection or raising voices and instruments in a celebratory howl!
You will need a quiet place, a candle holder, candle - whatever color calls to you, and matches.Get centered - Hook Up, Ground and Protect. Say ‘The light will return’. Insert your candle and say, “I embrace the dark. It is part of me.” Then allow yourself to contemplate the darkness—what lessons it has taught you and what it can still teach you. Imagine what you will bring into the light with you. When you are ready, strike the match, light the candle, saying, “Know the light. I step into the light, leaving what no longer serves me in the darkness. So may it be.”
Fill up a bath with warm (not hot) water and light some candles or incense around the bath. Next, add cleansing herbs to the bath such as sage, chamomile, basil, peppermint, cinnamon, sandalwood, lavender or rosemary. They can be dried, fresh or as essential oils. As you sink into the warm water, imagine yourself being purified and cleansed from your feet all the way up to your head. Allow yourself to relax into the water and imagine all the old and unnecessary thoughts and feelings being washed away by the energy of the night. Honor your shadow self and offer your fears to the Mother Moon. Allow her to give you the power to re-birth them into something new and positive. After the ritual, drain the tub water out completely and discard the herbs outside in the moonlight.
We are all connected.....to each other.....to the earth. As we center ourselves, release the old and grow into the new, it creates a positive ripple affect, raising our vibration and the planet's as well.
