Here I am at the equivalent of an Underwood typewriter, tippy tapping away. I don't have to think or even look at the keyboard, it just feels like this old gal pulls the words right out of my head....but here's the problem (and, by the way, we should all have such problems). For my birthday I got a shiny new, light as a feather, fits in my purse, goldtone, MAC LAPTOP! Holy. Cow. I've named her Goldie and she is the best of the best, but for the life of me, I can't seem to write with her!
What. The. Heck.
After a lot of thought, and copious amounts of aimless wandering between my fridge, piano and rock shelf (don't ask), I've come to the conclusion that it's the ritual. Taking my old Dell out of her nook, plugging her in (the battery doesn't work) and waiting the 5 minutes for her to boot up while I sip my tea and ruminate. The familiar sound of the keys, the buzz of the screen and that lovely feeling that I'm creating with a trusted friend relaxes and focuses me. It's comforting, and comfortable, a way to do something that is neither. For me this ritual stops the world for a while and helps me connect "in". It's a sacred centering that does what rituals are supposed to do. It helps me focus in and be...........better.
How about you? Do you have one? What's the ritual that eases you through, focuses you down, draws you into the something in your life? C'mon..... I really want to know......
